The new Media Law has been published in the „Official Gazette of Montenegro“ No. 054/24 on on June 11, 2024 and it has come into force on June 19, 2024.
One of the most significant novelties in the law is that the internal organization of the media, as well as the conditions for the election of the editor-in-chief, should be regulated by the media Statute.
The new Media Law will result in higher transparency in the ownership structure of the media, better protection from hate speech, and finally, higher freedom of the media.
